What does it actually do?

It moves air at three speeds and can add a fine mist, with two cooling modes and manual tilt for direction. There are no refrigeration components inside, so it is a fan with mist rather than an air conditioner.

Can I set it to turn off on its own?

There is a built-in timer with 2, 4 and 8 hour settings, selected from the touchscreen. Beyond those three intervals there is no custom duration, so you pick the nearest one rather than dialing an exact time.

Does it need emptying after use?

Yes on both counts. The 23.6 ounce top tank and the condensate container underneath both hold water, and leaving either standing between uses is the quickest route to a stale smell.

Will it cool a whole room?

Not in the sense of dropping the room temperature. It is described as a portable solution for surface-level cooling, which means the effect is local to where the airflow reaches and fades with distance from the unit.

What comes with it?
