Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still have to make the dough?

Yes. The press shapes and seals a wrapper you supply, whether you roll your own dough or buy it ready-made, so it handles the folding rather than the pastry itself.

What size dumplings does it make?

One size, set by the mold itself, which is what gives a tray of them a uniform look. If you want mixed sizes in the same batch, some of them will still be folded by hand.

Does the dough stick to the press?

Some batters and wetter doughs will cling, and a light dusting of flour on the mold is the usual fix. Overfilling is the other common cause, since filling pushed to the edge stops the seal closing cleanly.

Will it work with store-bought wrappers?

It should, as long as the wrapper is large enough to cover the mold and pliable rather than dried out. A wrapper that has been sitting uncovered tends to crack at the fold no matter what presses it.

Is it dishwasher safe?

The description does not say either way, so hand washing is the safe assumption. It is a food-grade plastic press with no electronics in it, which keeps cleanup to soap, water and a towel.
